Includes primary medicine and emergencies as well as the various medical or surgical specialities, diagnostic equipment and medical treatments.

There are two modalities of private medical insurance:

MEDICAL TEAM ONLY

The insured can go to all the medical professionals and health centres collaborating with the insurance company and specified in the manual, where they are listed by speciality and area.

MEDICAL TEAM + FREE CHOICE:

The insured can choose between the professionals listed in the manual of the Insurance Company and any other, including those not specified in the list of medical consultants and hospitals. The insured who chooses the second option must pay 10% or 20% of the invoice, depending on the insurance company, and up to a limit agreed upon in the policy.

Although the contracting rules vary from one company to another, as a general rule we may assume that:

The maximum age to subscribe a private medical insurance is 70. If the individual is already insured with a company and exceeds this age, the insurance will continue to be valid as before.
At the time of subscribing the policy, the insured must not be pregnant, which is why assistance at birth is excluded for a period of between 7 and 10 months. If the insured subscribes the policy while being pregnant, all tests and consultations will be included, but not the actual birth.
A medical questionnaire must be filled in. If the insured suffers from any ailment prior to signing the contract, the Company can excluded the ailment from the cover of the policy, increase the price of the insurance or even refuse to sign a policy with the individual concerned.
If the new policy is the continuation of another medical insurance, all exclusion periods are eliminated (except birth).

Furthermore, a wide array of offers of modules is at the disposal of the insured: only emergencies and primary care, consultations and specialists, and the complete package adding hospitalisation and operations to all the above.

Another modality of this product is cover by co-payment, meaning that each time the insured goes to a consultation a small amount is charged (lowering somewhat the Price of the insurance), or without co-payment, giving the insured the absolute peace of mind that he or she will only pay the cost of the insurance policy, without any unpleasant surprised, regardless of whether or not the insurance is used.

In addition, all this can be complemented with a dental insurance or subscribing the latter individually.

Another advantage of medical insurances is that, if the policy holder is a company or self-employed, the cost of the medical insurance is tax-deductible up to a maximum of 500 euros per person per annum.
